Tidbit – Tech & Crypto

Earn Bitcoin with an app (Simple, fast, and not a Bitcoin Faucet)

So for the past month I have been using an app on the play store called Bitit.
It gives you credits in exchange for downloading apps. Those credits can be redeemed for bitcoin directly into your bitcoin. wallet.
Unlike other apps that give you credits in exchange for downloading apps, this one immediately gives you the credits after the download, and so you don't have to go through the bullshit of having to register yourself or completing a task. Just download, open, and get credits. To redeem for bitcoin, you need 500 credits, and most apps give you well over 100 credits for a download.
You can also get credits everyday just for using the app and getting your daily reward. You also get loyalty credits from the apps that you install and keep on your phone. You just go to loyalty rewards, click the apps you have installed, and you get credits just for opening them.
You can also get credits for referring people. If you refer someone, you get 50 credits when they install it, and 10% of all the credits they earn. If your referred person refers another person for themselves, you get 10% of the other referred person's credits.
This app does not require any personal information of you and there is no signup. To use the app, it asks for you phone number and that is it. It is supposed to call you to confirm its your number (it never calls you) and you can use the app.
Now, if you are like me, I use my mom's phone number as well as my own. But, I don't have the app installed on her phone. Instead, I have an old phone, and put her number into the app, it will say the call failed and it will text a code instead. I get the code from her phone, and type it in to the old broken phone that is connected to wifi. This means her actual phone has nothing to do with the app, and the other old phone can download credits. I tried using my own personal phone number on 3 devices to see if I can get triple the credits for downloading the same apps, but your phone number is used to remember your credits and apps, so if you install an app on one device, the offer disappears as well on the other devices. So maybe if you want to save memory on your phone, install the app on an old phone no one uses, and put in your phone number, wait for it to say call is unavailable, get the code from your phone, and put it in the old phone. Now you can just download apps on and old phone and get bitcoin direct to your bitcoin wallet.
Through this app, you can realistically make 4 to five dollars a week if you download every single day and chack at all times of day to see apps that give you tons of credits.
The apps offered are usually games, and apps from actual companies like Walgreens, McDonalds, Rhapsody, Paypal, Ebay, etc.
I personally love downloading Rhapsody because they always give you more than 500 credits when you download it. (remember you get points for merely opening the app, you dont have to register for anything).
Although Loyalty rewards are nice, I uninstall every app because my phone is only 8gb. Besides that, the same app will likely be offered tomorrow, and you get more credits for installing it again, than keeping it in your phone and getting the loyalty Credits.
Now you might ask, well what do I use Bitcoin for, and what is this wallet you are telling me about?
Ok so a bitcoin wallet is self explanatory as it is a wallet for your bitcoins. You can get a wallet online, or in the app store. I highly recommend using BitX on the google play store. You register with your email, it tells you how much money you have in USD and in Bitcoin, and it tells you the value of Bitcoin.
Notice that this is unlike other Beer money, because the Price of Bitcoin goes up and down, so if it goes up to like 1200 like it was last year, and you had 20 dollars worth when it is 400, you will now have 60 USD. That is why I haven't bought anything yet with my bitcoin as I am waiting for the price to go up, so I get more money.
You can use bitcoins to buy reddit gold, and other things. You can sell bitcoins directly to people, or you can buy gift cards for amazon, and other places if you just google it.
I have made 25 dollars so far in USD, but as the price fluctuates, I sometimes have 23 and other times 29.
There are other apps exactly the same format as this Bitit app, and are from the same company. The other apps are TidBit, and TopitApp. They work the exact same way, look the same, but they sometimes have different offers, so you can use all 3 apps on your phone and have 3 different amounts of credits for the apps. Not only that, but you can claim your daily reward for each app every single day.
To further clarify, these are not bitcoin faucets. You get credits for downloading apps and opening them. You can immediately uninstall those apps after you open them. (that is what I do). 500 credits are about 30 cents, but you can easily make that and can redeem once or twice a day, and remember you can use the 3 apps.
Here is a picture of the app http://i.imgur.com/krd3cEz.png I know it says 0 credits earned, but that id because I just redeemed over 1000 credits that I earned today, and it can be seen from my Bitcoin Wallet Transactions from BitX here: http://i.imgur.com/HVbvRT3.png
Here is proof that I have made 25 dollars so far: http://i.imgur.com/GKrzfhf.png
Here are the links to the app (I dont think its available for IOS)
Bitit Ref NonRef
Tidbit Ref NonRef
TopitApp Ref NonRef
Thanks for reading. I just thought I'd share because I love reading the posts here. I personally use bing rewards, my coke rewards, and perk TV and can say that although I have made 45 bucks in amazon gift cards, I have made 25 dollars apart from the 45 even quicker with this bitcoin app.
(also quick note), yes you can click the links, and it'll take you to the play store even if you are on your computer. You can download the app to your phone from your computer.
EDIT: I just remembered something that I need to mention. When you download apps, they say "Up to___ credits" meaning it is not an exact amount. If they tell you they'll give you 430, they'll probably give you from 200 to 390 credits and not exactly 430
EDIT 2: For those wondering, i use an lg stylo from cricket and I have android 5.1.1 but the app has worked on every single android device.ive tried the app on. Even the really old cheap made in china phones
EDIT 3: the app will crash the first time you open it everyday. If you open it again, it sorks like a charm

The /r/btc China Dispatch: Episode 8: Special Extended Lunar New Year Edition - 8btc Discusses the Official Release of Bitcoin Classic

Howdy /btc, it’s been awhile! The /btc China dispatch was on vacation this week due to the Chinese New Year, but now your humble correspondent is back with the vengeance with more OC from the Bitcoin Sinosphere.
In this edition of the /btc China dispatch, we look at a thread on 8btc.com announcing the release of Bitcoin Classic to Chinese readers. I hope you guys find the translation informative.
Note that unlike in previous editions of the Dispatch, in addition to the posters’ user names, I have also posted their forum titles in parentheses next to their user names for your reference and possible amusement. All accounts on 8btc.com are ranked based on number of accrued points (essentially upvotes) from, in order of lowest to highest, Noob, Shiphand, Crew Member, Squad Leader, First Mate, Captain and Pirate King. Additionally, some people have custom titles equivalent to Reddit flair.

Subject: Bitcoin Classic Officially Released!
Posted by bluestar (Crew Member)
Bitcoin Classic has finally been officially released. You can download it via the link below:
https://github.com/bitcoinclassic/bitcoinclassic/releases/tag/v0.11.2.cl1
Now miners that support Classic can start using Classic to mine blocks. Does anyone know how many miners there are in China who support Classic? I remember a while ago there was someone on 8btc who gave us a tip off, but now there’s no information whatsoever. Has 8btc been abandoned or are the miner’s secretly planning on making a massive move? Any inside info would be appreciated!
You can see the extent to which each version is supported by going to the following page:

I would like to call on the miners to complete the upgrade of bitcoin as soon as possible. If we wait for Core we’re going to be killed off by Blockstream, Inc. sooner or later.
[Response 3]
Posted by hempheart (Squad Leader)
My guess is that the miners will support Core. The miners are putting their lives on the line with their investment unlike small time investors. The small time investors will still be able to eat even if they lose all their BTC.
[Response 4]

All us smaller players can do at this point is sit back and watch how things unfold.
[Response 5]
Posted by bluestar (Crew Member)
@hempheart
It doesn’t matter even if they support Classic as the hard fork will only activate once 75% of the hashing power is behind Classic. Once you get 75% of the hashing power, that means that a supermajority support Classic and Core will be nothing but a niche, so there’s no real “winning or losing” when it comes to this vote.
[Response 6]
Posted by copay (Crew Member)
As the name suggests, Classic is a return to Satoshi’s original vision.
[Response 7]
Posted by Ma_Ya (Shibe Loves BTC Love Doge Guide idgui.com Captain)
@copay
Classic just means classic. What I want to know is whether or not the official release continues to use a 75% threshold for activating a forced hard fork like the beta version, presenting the possibility for a schism in the bitcoin community.
If Classic doesn’t support the 90% 2MB consensus then supporting Classic is basically just like supporting a fracturing of the bitcoin community. I strongly suggest that miners should emphasize first and foremost not dividing the community and boycott any contentious version that forks after less than 90% of hash power is reached.
Pools that support forking at 75% want to divide the community and I advise all miners to leave these pools. It is no longer a simple question of 1MB or 2MB, but rather a question of 75% versus 90%: fork plus schism versus fork with no schism. The issue is about maintaining the unity of the bitcoin community.
To digress a little bit, Bitcoin XT, which has already been abandoned, also sought to hastily fork at 75% and divide the community.
You can find more information on Qt versions here:

@Ma_Ya
What is the big difference between 75% and 90%?
[Response 10]
Posted by Ma_Ya (Shibe Loves BTC Love Doge Guide idgui.com Captain)
@copay
In the event of a hard fork activated at 75%, there’s a possibility that the remaining 25% of hashpower will hold out.
That is, the hashpower ratio will be 75%:25% = 3:1; at this hashpower ratio there is definitely a possibility that the two coins that result from the fork will coexist and compete with one another. This will result in a splitting of the community and there will be two bitcoins. They will attack one another and claim the other coin is an alt while each saying their own coin is the true bitcoin.
One the other hand, if a fork happens after 90% of hashpower is behind it, the hashpower rate is much higher at 9:1. When the hashpower ratio is this high, the miners working on the 10% chain will need 10x as long to produce a block and they could be attacked by the other 90%, who would only need to send 1/9 of the hashpower to attack the other chain. Therefore it will be difficult for the 10% chain to survive over the long term. Therefore there will be no split in the community.

Four Major Mining Pools Call for Consensus, Reject Hard Fork to Bitcoin Classic
http://8btc.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=28955
My proposal that Classic needs to support the 90% 2 MB consensus as soon as possible is made in good faith.
Currently Classic does not support the 90% 2 MB consensus and insists on initiating a hard fork at 75% with the possibility of dividing the community, so the major mining pools have come out with a joint statement saying that they do not support it. This joint statement is Classic’s failure. I never would have imagined that their failure would be announced as soon as they released an official version.
The results might be different if the official version had supported the 90% 2 MB consensus and avoided the risk of dividing the community.

The front page of 8btc:
http://www.8btc.com/34454 [Translator’s Note: The headline of the page linked to reads “A Summary of Discussion Regarding the Raising of the Bitcoin Block Size”]
Take a close look. The pools haven’t rejected it, they’re just waiting to see how Core responds. Btcc, who are regarded as diehard core followers said: “if Bitcoin Core still does not consent to raise the block size using this method, then we will very probably need to look for another leading team to implement a hard fork, with an activation period of 12 months.”
  1. Btcc has given Core 1 year (of course I personally think this is too long); if Core does not implement a hard fork then btcc will have to find some other solution.
  2. The fact of the matter is that everyone is waiting for a statement from Core and if they don’t make themselves clear in the next few months then their exit will be inevitable.

Honestly I don’t think there’s any need to respond to this guy’s mantra-like posts. Every time I see one of his posts it’s like hitting a brick wall. I’ve already responded to his calls for 90% support many times in the past. It doesn’t matter how logical you are, he’ll just ignore you and if you slip up anywhere in your argument he’ll just dwell on it without letting go. It would be better to wait until he actually posts something interesting before responding.

It looks like it’s going to be impossible to raise the block size this way. There will definitely be a simpler way to raise the block size in the future.

Yeah, there’s a simple way. If Core was willing to lead a hard fork it could be accomplished immediately. The problem is they’re not willing.

I think that the current situation is actually okay. If BTC relied on only one team to decide its direction then it wouldn’t need to exist.

It is supposed to convey a profound feeling of impermanence, as the original author watched while the empire, the Ming dynasty, crumbled away. So, something like 'the bigger they are, the harder they fall' or 'you'll climb the steps only to jump off the building' probably referencing to when the bubble pops)

There aren't too many Ethereum posts. I will keep scouring and bring back what I find as often as I can. Keep in mind also 8btc is primarily a bitcoin forum. I'm curious to see if dialogue shifts given the recent news.

Bitcoin pump and Dump?

Ok guys so I came across an interesting article today calling Bitcoin nothing but a scam and the worlds largest pump and dump scam.
"The losers are ill-informed buyers caught up in the spiral of greed. The result is a massive transfer of wealth from ordinary families to internet promoters."- Bill Harris, my question to everyone on here is do you agree with Mr.Harris statement or is this just another nay sayer beating on a drum? I'd like to think that we are not those type of people that are looking to take advantage of those that are less informend and rather we are teaching them and helping them grow in the vast world of cryptocurrencies.
I'm going to leave a link to the article as well if you want to read it, it's pretty interesting to read everything that he claims the cryptocurrency world is all about. Another tid bit all Bitcoin is good for apperantly is criminal activity who knew!

Considering Grabbing A Pick-Axe

So I have been doing some digging into DogeCoin and specifically mining for it. Most of the info I have dug up and most of my understanding of this comes from http://dogecointutorial.com/mining.html and http://codinginmysleep.com/bitcoin-mining-in-plain-english/ along with a spattering of readings on /dogecoin and /dogemining.
It's a pretty big world, mining for coins, but I am trying to wrap my head around it. I have a couple of questions, if you guys would be so kind as to answer if you can:
  1. Is it worth it to get into it this late in the game? (Is it late in the game, or is it early and there's a lot of potential left?)
  2. I'm confused about the 'wallet' concept that coins go into. Is there somewhere I go to get this? Is it website specific, or universal?
  3. Is there somewhere I can go to get help walking through the process of starting this? I've read the getting started guides, but I am nervous and would feel better having someone a bit more experienced lending a helping hand.
  4. Is there further resources I should be reading before getting into this? ( Links please? )
  5. Is bandwidth an issue?
I'm planning on starting off small, with my personal gaming rig. Not 24/7, but part-time. Depending on what I see, I'm considering investing in a mining rig within a year. I plan on using e-currency as an investment. Is this wise? What's your experiences? Anything you think is worth bringing up to someone about to get his toes wet in this process, please, let me know. No tid-bit is un-juicy to this sponge. I'm trying to learn as much as I can.

Earn Bitcoin with an app (simple, quick, and not a bitcoin faucet)

Here is a picture of the app http://i.imgur.com/krd3cEz.png I know it says 0 credits earned, but that id because I just redeemed over 1000 credits that I earned today, and it can be seen from my Bitcoin Wallet Transactions from BitX here: http://i.imgur.com/HVbvRT3.png Here is proof that I have made 25 dollars so far: http://i.imgur.com/GKrzfhf.png Here are the links to the app (I dont think its available for IOS) Bitit Ref Non Ref Tidbit Ref Non Ref TopitApp Ref Non Ref Thanks for reading.

Why the feds should sell their DPR bitcoin to institutional investors

After nearing the $1000 threshold once again, the price of bitcoin corrected yesterday and now trades around $815. But with the spate of recent positive news re merchant adoption (Overstock, Zynga, maybe Netflix), institutional interest (Fortress / Pantera), and regulatory wins (India, US - see Tid Bits), it’s hard not to like Bitcoin in 2014.
There is only one piece of news that seems to be applying downward pressure on Bitcoin prices. And I believe that news is being wildly misinterpreted. Yesterday, TechCrunch broke a story on the arrest of another one of the Silk Road moderators in Ireland, but buried the lead:
*In related news, the millions of dollars in bitcoin seized by the FBI from Ross Ulbricht and the first Silk Road, currently stored in a set of online wallets, appears to be on the move. A source in the U.S. Justice Department said that “authorities” have access to the Ulbricht’s bitcoin cache and may be selling it off for less volatile currencies in the next few weeks. Ulbright has given the U.S. government the private keys to the bitcoins.
“The reason for selling is that the Government has lost faith in the value of bitcoin and does not want to deal with the volatility of the currency,” the source said.*
The prospect of a government firesale spooked many people within the Bitcoin community, and rightly so. Yet while a rapid wholesale of the seized Silk Road assets would overwhelm the market and send the price of bitcoin crashing, it’s hard to imagine the government acting so foolishly. Say what you want about our dear leaders, but you can bet your ass that they will be careful when cashing in $115 million worth of found money (market rate for the ~144,000 seized bitcoins). They have two much better options. The first obvious solution is to wind down the position gradually…maybe 1000 BTC per day, and deal with the ensuing near-term volatility. Within less than six months, they could take their gains without breaking the market.
There is also a second, better option that has been neglected: if the federal government has indeed lost faith in the value of bitcoin (which is an insanely ironic claim given QE 1-infinity) and desires a quick disposal of its assets, it might do well to consider an institutional sale. If 2014 proves to be the year of the institutional investor in Bitcoin, the feds are a big seller in a sellers market. There could already be plenty of interested parties with the liquidity to make such a large scale asset purchase. Dan Primack at Fortune broke news before New Year’s about the $150 million bitcoin-related fund that Fortress Investment Group is forming with Pantera capital. Is it really that unlikely that a trading desk at Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, BofAML, Citi, Morgan Stanley, etc. buys a similar stake? If that is a possibility, then Wall Street is in the complementary “buy” position to the feds’ ”sell” position.
Moreover, you have have to believe that in the event of an auction like this, the feds would be tipping their hand when it comes to their anticipated regulatory stance on Bitcoin. ”It’s a legal commodity, Wall Street…fire away!” The enormity of a federal asset sale to institutional investors cannot be understated from a legislative perspective, either. If Wall Street starts making money within the Bitcoin ecosystem, they could call off the lobbying dogs that would otherwise work to impede Bitcoin’s progress within the existing regulatory framework.

OpenSSL Heartbleed vulnerability 11 April 2014What happened The version of OpenSSL used by Bitcoin Core software version 0.9.0 and earlier contains a bug that can reveal memory to a remote attacker. See http://heartbleed.com/ for details. What you should do Immediately upgrade to Bitcoin Core version 0.9.1 which is linked against OpenSSL version 1.0.1g. If you use the official binaries, you can verify the version of OpenSSL being used from the Bitcoin Core GUI's Debug window (accessed from the Help menu). If you compiled Bitcoin Core yourself or use the Ubuntu PPA, update your system's OpenSSL. Linux users should also upgrade their system's version of OpenSSL. Android Android version 4.1.1 is vulnerable to Heartbleed. Try if you can upgrade to at least Android 4.1.2. If you are using Bitcoin Wallet on an Android phone, you should upgrade the app to at least version 3.45. How serious is the risk If you are using the Windows version of the Bitcoin Core GUI without a wallet passphrase, it is possible that your wallet could be compromised by clicking on a bitcoin:. Payment request link If you are using bitcoind (on Linux, OSX, or Windows) , have enabled the-rpcssl option, and allow RPC connections from the Internet, an attacker from a whitelisted (-allowip) IP address can very likely discover the rpcpassword and the last rpc request. It is possible (but unlikely) private keys could be sent to the attacker.

Bitcoin (in the context of emerging technologies) mentioned at a Professional Development Week Conference for the Association of Public Sector Information Professionals (IT professionals in the Government of Canada) which I attended...

I attended what I would say is a pretty big annual event for IT professionals in the Government of Canada, in the country's capital city of Ottawa. I attended a seminar entitled 'The Top Emerging Technologies To Watch In The Age of The Customer', presented by a Principle Analyst from Forrester Research, Inc.
It was a general overview of emerging trends and technologies, and as he spoke about the internet of things, he mentioned that we're going to start seeing protocols being developed like TCP/IP was developed for the internet, for IoT type infrastructure. I did not think he would mention bitcoin... but he did. He asks the audience who has heard of the blockchain, and I think I was one of the only ones with my hand up but I don't think he saw me (I'd say 200-300 ppl in the room). He quickly adds 'who has heard of bitcoin? it's the same thing, blockchain and bitcoin they're the same' and then quite a few people had their hands up (1/5th of the room).
I thought it was interesting that people had heard of bitcoin but not the blockchain, and in a room filled with IT professionals. So they've heard of it, but probably don't know much about it.
The fact that bitcoin was at all mentioned did get me a little excited. I think hearing about it, and in the context that he presented it in, is going to continue to normalize and de-stigmatize it.
Another interesting aspect was that he clearly stated it was not part of the presentation, just an extra tid-bit he was going off on. He also mentioned about using it as a means for authenticating device to device communication/transaction.

The one who actually invented Bitcoin – one of the most important & well-known cryptocurrency – did not mean to actually invent a digital currency or any currency for that reason. His goal was to make something that was still not invented in the digital world. Post-failure of all the centralized attempts, he tried to build a cash system that does not have any central entity. Bitcoin scams have been popular lately, most notably in the recent mass Twitter hack, in which hacked accounts of Joe Biden, Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Barack Obama, Kanye West, and others promised the same thing: a doubling of whatever Bitcoin was sent to a certain address. It exposed a major hole in Twitter security, and apparently netted the perpetrators over $100,000. If you’re interested in ...
